With the deterioration of the security context, several cities are now confronted with massive arrivals of displaced populations from areas worst affected by insecurity. The arrival of these inhabitants in urban centres in the Eastern, Northern, Central-Northern and Sahel regions is considerably increasing demand for drinking water supply, ensured by the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/oneabf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">National Office of Water and Sanitation<\/a>&nbsp;(Onea), communes and the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mea.gov.bf\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">Ministry of Water and Sanitation<\/a>&nbsp;(MEA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a view to supporting the Burkinabe government to meet this supply challenge, GRET and its partners (Onea,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.solidarites.org\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">Solidarit\u00e9s international<\/a>&nbsp;and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.urd.org\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">Groupe URD<\/a>) initiated the project to&nbsp;<strong>\u201c<\/strong><em>Strengthen the resilience of public drinking water services in crisis contexts in Burkina Faso\u201d<\/em>. This initiative, implemented to improve populations\u2019 living conditions in the cities covered by the project, was made possible with the signature of a funding agreement on Friday 9 April 2021 at Onea headquarters in Ouagadougou. With a budget of&nbsp;<strong>1,500,000 euros<\/strong>, this agreement was signed by the French Ambassador, the Country director of NGO Solidarit\u00e9s International, the Executive director of Onea and the Executive director of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.fr\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">Agence fran\u00e7aise de d\u00e9veloppement<\/a>&nbsp;(AFD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded by AFD and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usaid.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"ek-link\">USAID<\/a>, this project will make it possible to provide urgent assistance to approximately&nbsp;<strong>360,000 people<\/strong>&nbsp;in terms of water, hygiene and sanitation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The security situation in Burkina Faso is having a significant impact on populations\u2019 living conditions in certain regions in the country.
