From 2012 to 2015, the Municipality and GRET jointly managed an initiative that resulted in the implementation of a waste collection service for 15,000 inhabitants. This project was completed on 31 December 2015.
The Gicod project was launched on 17 December 2015 with a view to changing scale. In this second phase, coordinated by the Municipality with support from GRET, the service will be extended to almost 60,000 inhabitants, while including support measures such as consultation between stakeholders, raising awareness of populations or strengthening the capacities of municipal agents working in the sector.
The main project activities consist of making the pre-collection service independent (transfer and evacuation of waste in the five current neighbourhoods), extending it to the entire city, and consolidating the collection of the Household waste collection tax in 15 other neighbourhoods. The system for transfer and evacuation of waste will be reinforced and a system for sorting/recovery of waste will be tested.
